David A. Barker, president and qualifying broker of Barker Realty, Inc., is a fourth-generation Santa Fean. His great grandfather, N.B. Laughlin, arrived in Santa Fe from Texas on horseback in the 1880s. He later served as a Territorial Supreme Court Judge. David's grandmother Ruth Laughlin was a noted writer, authoring such books as The Wind Knows No Shadow and Los Cabelleros. After the adventures of growing up in Santa Fe, David attended Colorado College, graduating with a major in business administration and a keen interest in understanding the real estate business. Returning to Santa Fe in 1978, he joined his father at Barker Realty and Barker Management. David has worked extensively in high-end residential and commercial sales and has significant commercial leasing and management experience. He and his wife Lisa have owned and operated Barker Realty, Inc. since 1985.In a real estate world dominated by larger firms and franchises, Barker Realty, Inc. stands out as a medium-sized firm by design. David's comfortable and in-touch management style involves him in almost every transaction that passes through the office. He is past-president of the Santa Fe Association of Realtors, 1990 Realtor of the Year, and a long-standing member of the Professional Standards Committee.
