The
Barker Family
The Barker family has been part of the Santa Fe
community for four generations. Our roots are strong, deep, and
widespread.
N. B. Laughlin Barker came to Santa Fe from Texas
on horseback in the 1880s and served as a Territorial Supreme
Court judge in the early 1900s. His grandson, third-generation
Santa Fean Laughlin Barker, founded Barker Realty more than 30
years ago. Santa Fe was still a small town then, and the company
was one of its few real estate brokerages. Laughlin’s reputation
and friendships garnered him numerous loyal clients.
Laughlin’s son David is president and qualifying
broker of Barker Realty and a fourth-generation Santa Fean. David
joined his father at Barker Realty in 1978. David and his wife,
Lisa, have been carrying on the family tradition for 20 years
and nurturing the relationships that were the company’s
foundation.
David has worked extensively in high-end residential
and commercial sales and has significant commercial leasing and
management experience. His comfortable, personal management style
involves him in almost every transaction in the office. He is
past president of the Santa Fe Association of Realtors, was 1990’s
Realtor of the Year, and has been a long-standing member of the
Professional Standards Committee. He is a past board member of
Santa Fe Economic Development, was appointed by the mayor in 2002
to chair the Santa Fe Community Convention Center Task Force,
and has been an active participant in the city’s redevelopment
of the historic Railyard.
David and Lisa recognize that Santa Fe’s rich
history distinguishes it from other American cities. They are
deeply committed to the preservation of Santa Fe’s architectural
traditions and its historic homes and landmarks. This dedication
and the strong Barker family legacy directly benefit all of our
clients.
